About the Event

Green is the New Black!

ETS, COP27 & Net-zero: How are we going?

First in the world, the New Zealand government has proposed a cow, sheep burp tax to curb emissions. The levy would come into force in 2025.

Fourteen years in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and just before COP27 in Egypt, it is a good time to ask whether the ETS is making a significant impact in helping New Zealand reduce emissions and meet its target under the Paris Accord. How is Australia transitioning to net-zero?

 Diplosphere's panel will discuss:

  • What does the Emission Trading Scheme actually mean?
  • How does it affect us and our food production?
  • Is the ETS making a significant impact in helping NZ reduce emissions and meet its target under the Paris Accord?
  • Are we a role model for other countries or are we taxing food production when the cost of living is high?
  • What are the alternatives?

 Speakers

  • Terry Copeland, CEO of Federated Farmers
  • John O’Brien, CEO of Carbon Market Solutions, former Regional Technical Advisor on Climate Change Mitigation at United Nations Development Programme
  • Amy Guihot, acting High Commissioner, Australian High Commission
  • Raf Manji, Leader of TOP - The Opportunities Party
  • Christina Hood, Principal Consultant, Compass Climate, former Head of Climate Change Unit, International Energy Agency
