ETS, COP27 & Net-zero: How are we going?
First in the world, the New Zealand government has proposed a cow, sheep burp tax to curb emissions. The levy would come into force in 2025.
Fourteen years in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and just before COP27 in Egypt, it is a good time to ask whether the ETS is making a significant impact in helping New Zealand reduce emissions and meet its target under the Paris Accord. How is Australia transitioning to net-zero?Â
 Diplosphere's panel will discuss:Â
- What does the Emission Trading Scheme actually mean?
- How does it affect us and our food production?
- Is the ETS making a significant impact in helping NZ reduce emissions and meet its target under the Paris Accord?
- Are we a role model for other countries or are we taxing food production when the cost of living is high?
- What are the alternatives?
